This is my favorite restaurant on Long Island. It is as close to culinary perfection as you can get on Long Island in terms of food, atmosphere, service and decor. If I had one last meal to eat before I died, it would be here.

The dining room is beautiful: romantic, elegant, refined and cozy without being pretentious or trying too hard. We were warmly greeted immediately by the maitre d’ who sat us at a spacious table overlooking the lake and the outdoor bonfire–a nice touch considering you can go outside and sit around the fire with your drinks.
Upon being seated they brought out some delicious, out-of the-oven, homemade bread. After bringing out cocktails and wine they served all of us a scrumptious Amuse-Bouche, which was a delightful surprise.

Although the dining room was packed, we received warm, prompt and professional service all night with several different people attending to the table. Most busy formal dining establishments would not be happy if you brought an 18 month old baby on a Friday night, however the staff at the Lake House made our son feel extremely comfortable and welcome all night.
We were all blown away by the food! The menu offers an eclectic array of high end new-American cuisine. For the appetizer we ordered the selection of artisinal cheeses and cured meats which included Iberico Bellota Ham, Saussison Sec, Foie Gras Mousse, Smoked Prosciutto Cheeses: Humboldt Fog Goat, Petit Basque, Brillat-Savarin Triple Crème Cow, and Bleu d’Auverne.
For the main course we split the Long Island duck breast and crisp leg confit with smoked bacon, wheat berry pilaf and pomegranate-pistachio glaze AND the porcini-crusted local wild striped bass filet with truffle smashed red potatoes, braised leeks, wild mushroom emulsion and a port reduction. Everything we ordered was absolutely amazing and perfectly executed! I wish that I could have licked my plate when I was finished!!

I would highly recommend The Lake House for a special occasion like an anniversary, birthday or romantic getaway. The prices are not cheap, but as I have mentioned in previously reviews, you get what you pay for!

I’ve been to this restaurant about four times . I have to say it’s one of the best restaurants on Long Island The food is unbelievable and the service is spectacular.

Rarely would I trek east of Route 110, let alone the south shore of Long Island.   So finding a good place to eat on the south shore is about as unfamiliar to me as finding Chinese food that doesn’t start with “General” and ends in “chicken” in Biloxi, Mississippi.
When my fellow foodie friend suggested the Lake House in Bayshore, i thought it was a joke, but out of respect for him, I acquiesced.  The restaurant has no parking lot (at least to my knowledge) and street parking is about as rare as Kayne West saying something intelligent.  The restaurant is relatively small, but intimate and has both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a fire pit for a cool Autumn evening.  As for food…it is the pinnacle of our experience.  It is one of the best on Long Island.  The chef is creative and near Food Network quality.
This restaurant is not a place for the bling, so please leave the Bentleys or Corvettes (it is South Shore…j/k) at home.  Most of the crowds are local and down to earth.  I enjoyed the experience so much that I’ve been back three weekends in a row.  They also prepare an excellent Sunday brunch.

One of the best Resteraunts on Long Island. Nice bar, outdoor seating, friendly staff. Shared the suckling pig app. Wife had the Pork Chop, myself the Rabbit Papperdelle. All three were fantastic. Great wine list. Street parking only. Expansive menu with Pork, Venison, Rabbit, Duck and Lamb to name a few.

This is the best restaurant on Long Island. It is a hidden gem in Bay Shore. The husband and wife owners have such created elegant but relaxed fine dinning. The Chef is excellent

Took my parents here for their anniversary tonight.  This place is a hidden gem.  The view was outstanding overlooking the Lake.  The service was great.  The food is as good as it gets on Long Island.  Fantastic  The local oysters were great.  Tuna Tartare was a bit too salty for my taste but the fish was fresh.  The entrees were all good.  Two fish dishes were very very good.  My dad’s pork chop was as good a pork chop as I have ever tasted.  EVER!!  Dessert was also good.  I had a very good Creme Brulee.  Good wine list.  I enjoyed a nice Italian white which went well with the oysters and the fish.  Highly recommended.

Some of, if not the best food Long Island has to offer. Try the spring salad….. Unreal. The quality if drinks food and service is top notch. This is my go to restaurant for any special occasion.

This is our go-to restaurant for a special occasion. The food is always amazing and the wine list is perfect. For our summer anniversary, we love the outdoor porch overlooking the water. In the fall and winter, the indoor dining area overlooking the lit up water and the fireplace-lit bar area is cozy. And, they have offered a Valentine’s Day alternative which we love – a candlelight jazz dinner a day or two after the rush of holiday diners that’s quiet and romantic. I hope they will continue offering such a great experience when they relocate from the pond to the Great South Bay in the upcoming months.

Last night we dined here for the first time, as a pre-Valentine treat. My husband and I both loved the food and as an added bonus, the staff was very cordial and competent. The owner also chatted with us and it was obvious that she really cared about our dining experience. Although we liked the view and the ambience, the restaurant is relocating soon, so that may be a different aspect, time will tell. We both had the pork chop, which was very good, the donut dessert was yummy, but by far, I loved my appetizer of Nova salmon and crispy potato cake. Wow! Thanks to the owner and staff for providing a memorable dinner.

We have been going to The Lake House for many many years. We celebrate graduations, Anniversaries, birthdays, Tuesday’s, just about any excuse to go there. We always enjoy any selection on the menu. The service is excellent; we are always made to feel very special. We have recommended LH to all our friends and will continue to go there, and then follow them when they move to Maple Avenue in the near future.

Every single thing EVER ordered in this restaurant is simply perfection!! Service is excellent as well!!

OMG!!!

We always have such a wonderful experience when we visit The Lake House. This was our first brunch at the restaurant and we were thrilled. The food, atmosphere, and music were superb.
I had the crab cake with home fries. My husband had the french dip. Both meals were to die for. Absolutely fabulous.
I love this place.

Had a great brunch on Sunday with a live jazz trio overlooking the lake. Better than that, the food was fantastic! The herb-marinated steak and eggs was sooo good and my husband’s biscuits and gravy with ham, cheddar and poached eggs was even better! Server could have smiled and been more attentive.

Simply delightful dining experience from beginning to end… A+++. I love their skirt steak and tuna tartare!

Another fantastic meal at the lake house. The only thing better than the food is the service. This place never disappoints and is truly a special place to go with friends and family.

The Lake House is a must! The chef is masterful!!! The food preparation is exquisite. You will be impressed by the romantic ambiance, cocktails, service and knowledge of wine paring. Truly a fine dining experience.

Love, love, love this place. Went a few weeks ago for a romantic dinner. It was great! Food was delicious. Had app, salad, dinner. Best part was dessert outside by the fire pit. Service was terrific. Went back just last week. Had high expectations from the first time and they exceeded them. Went to celebrate our anniversary dinner. Had such a great night the first time, wanted to do it again. Our waitress, Millie, was so sweet and efficient. Dinner and dessert, outside again by fire pit, was excellent. Can’t wait to go back again!
